Living and Learning

Bloomingdale has been my home for over 40 years, where my late wife Jan and I raised our family.

Now the kids are all grown up and have families of their own.

My wife Marcia and I enjoy spending time with our children and grandchildren, community, volunteering, and singing with our band. If there’s time left over, I enjoy woodworking, fishing and working in my shop.

As a child, I grew up on a family farm in the Hespeler area (now Cambridge) next to my grandparents’ farm. This is where I gained hands-on experience working with my grandfather. During that time, I learned about work ethics, and helping your neighbour was just something you did – no questions asked!

Auto Mechanic

My career started right after high school as a mechanic’s apprentice and finally a licensed mechanic. I eventually joined my family’s school bus business. I supervised a number of mechanics and a fleet of over 150 vehicles.

Move into Office

When my father retired I moved from the shop into the office. Here I became a safety instructor, driver instructor and ultimately a licensed driver examiner. My duties also included complex school bus route design.

Further Schooling

I mapped out efficient transportation for student travel. This included helping design our own custom computer programs, which ultimately led me to Conestoga College years later for full-time courses in Web Design and Digital Media, after we sold our business
